Sick birds breathe with difficulty and with their beaks open. They do not participate with other birds and are weak. Even though they eat well until shortly before death, they lose weight, consume a lot of water, and have diarrhea. A yellow-brownish or greenish layer is often seen on the tongue and palate when the beak is open. Young animals with weak resistance often become acutely ill, while adults develop a chronic condition lasting four to eight weeks. In these cases, paralysis may occur after infection in the bones. If fungal diseases are not treated, they often lead to the death of the pigeon.
